Anime Recommendation (3) – Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai!

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai!: Pokkapoka

This week I’m recommending a more light hearted series that is not action based. Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! (Listen to me girls I am your father!) is a romantic, comedic, slice of life series that has a bit of a love triangle or harem element to it. This was one of the first series that I picked up when I first got back into anime last year and it just fueled my desire to continue delve further into the anime world.

Synopsis from Myanimelist:

“Segawa Yuta is a freshman of a university. He lost his parents when he was small and was raised by his sister Yuri. Yuta has been living alone since Yuri got married to a middle aged man when Yuta was a junior high student.
One day, Yuri visited Yuta’s apartment and asked him to take care of her three daughters while Yuri and her husband were on a trip. He unwillingly accepted the job but the plane Yuri took went missing. In order to prevent the daughters from being adopted separately by relatives, Yuta decided to take in all three girls.
A life of a strange family in a tiny apartment begins.”

The main cast of Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai!

While this series starts off pretty normal with a college freshman, Yuta, getting used to his new life on his own as his sister that took care of him has started her own family and he is no longer a child. While it seems like a generic series in the making, things take a tragic turn when suddenly his sister and her husband go missing and their three daughters need to be relocated as they are still young. After remembering the pain he had to endure growing up, he knows how important staying together with your loved ones is during these times and decides to take it upon himself to raise the three daughters rather than have them split up.

There isn’t all that much to say about the series since it is a slice of life series but I found it to be quite entertaining with the character interactions and watching how they adapt to their new lifestyle. It is a rather heart warming story that emphasizes on the importance of family and overcoming difficulties together rather than shouldering burdens on your own. Of course, this wouldn’t be an anime without some fan service (Loli and more mature women), and drama. I personally didn’t mind it too much since I prefer to go with the flow rather than critique a series on every little thing.

Overall, this series gave me quite a few good laughs and even made me get a little emotional at times which I applaud it for its ability to balance the two so sides so well. The animation and music for this series were also enjoyable as well with a catchy opening theme and overall decent character design and animation. I highly recommend this series to anyone seeking a less serious series and just wants to watch something where they can put their mind at ease and enjoy the show.
